Bexley North FC U16 girls win Champions of Champions Grand Final
In a fantastic gesture by Football NSW, the finals of the girls Champion of Champions competition were played at ANZ Stadium on Sat 24th October. The U16s final between Bexley North and Shoalhaven champions Culburra was always going to be an intense battle given each team’s remarkable records in 2009 .
Bexley North finished as St George Association Premiers, in July they were runners up in the Football NSW State Cup, and as Minor Premiers they were invited to the Champion of Champions competition. Commencing in 1972, the Football NSW Champion of Champions tournament is one of the most prestigious tournaments on the football calendar, with champions from each association pitted against each other in a knockout battle for supremacy. With wins over Padstow (5-0), Chipping Norton (1-0) and Picton in the semi final (7-1), Bexley North approached the game with quiet confidence and very, very loud excitement.
The use of ANZ Stadium, including showing the match live on the huge screens was made possible by major sponsor Coca-cola, and with use of the athletes entry, the dressing rooms and the indoor warm up areas, the girls enjoyed an unforgettable day. The game itself was incredibly fast with Culburra winning the early exchanges and rightly taking a 1-0 lead to the break. Coaches Perry and Mark encouraged the girls at half time and a determined and tougher team took the game to Culburra in the second half. In a magnificent turnaround Bexley North led 3-1 with 10 minutes to go and held on to record a memorable victory.
Bexley North will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2010. In becoming State Champions the Bexley North U16 girls have made another important contribution to our Club’s long and proud history.
What a massive effort girls - well done - the Club is so proud of you! Below are a few photos from the match.

The Club thanks Woolworths for their positive involvement in our childrens sport, and the Club will use the grant for training and SSG equipment for next year.
Football NSW - Champion of Champions
This elite competition is played between the A grade minor premiers of each of the 32 football associations in NSW. This year 4 Bexley North FC teams have qualified for the competition, which is the most teams represented by any St George Association club. Congratulations to our U12A girls, U14A boys, U14A girls and U16A girls.
